The internet has turned us into a bunch of information hoarding, junk-knowledge-eating hooligans.

Most people's way of relaxing is by becoming a passive observer who let their TV, their phone, and talking heads tell them what to do.

We're in a time of consumers. To think, is different.

The Thinking Gap

Most people don't have a thinking gap.

"A thinking gap is a time we have to think and ponder and create."

I've designed my day to have a thinking gap. This is non-negotiable. It makes the rest of my day go better and helps me visualize my own success.

This is the training grounds of my superpower.

Get up Early

5 AM is when I wake up. I do this because I get 3 extra hours to think and ponder and create.

Morning thinking (and coffee) has made a huge difference in my productivity. It's a peaceful time of productivity. No distractions. Only me, a sheet of paper, and some ideas.

What exactly do I think about? And why?

““If I only had an hour to chop down a tree, I would spend the first 45 minutes sharpening my axe.”” – Abraham Lincoln.

Those first three hours are a time of preparation and thought capture and focus.

Getting up early is my way of stealing back my time to decide what I want to do and why I want to do it. No companies, gurus, ads, or unwanted forces are at play.

Just me and my sheet.

It's More Fun Than you Think

At first, getting up early to think for 3 hours seems boring.

It's not!

Thinking, done correctly, works wonders for your attention span and ability to do deep work.

To think correctly, you must capture how you think. To do this correctly could be a whole book (which isn't out of the question). MadGuides is designed to elaborate on Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) in great detail. Stick around to learn more.

If the only thing you take away from here, thinking is a time of preparation. Record your thoughts, reminisce on them, and use them of course!

Don't overthink it.
